EWB Meeting Minutes for April 22, 2005

Started the April 22, 2005 EWB PSU student meeting by holding elections. Outgoing Vice President Jason Rea ran elections process, the elected officers are as follows.

Fundraising Coordinator: Donny Durgan

Webmaster: Nick Carey

Public Relations Officer: Robert Jackson

Project Coordinator: Kerry Hertert

SALP Liaison: Bethany Jackson

Student Liaison to the Professional Group: Robert Allan

Colleen Jenkins president then took over meeting. She spoke about defining membership in EWB. Then she implemented an official membership list and asked for an approximate time commitment for the students.

Professional members spoke: starting with Jeff McCormick who is the project coordinator. He began by talking about his position as project manager. Specifics included getting new projects approved through national EWB organization. Additionally he spoke about ideas for setting up project committees that will help to organize ideas and arrange projects. He concluded by addressing questions and explaining how to get a new project identified and approved.

Brad Bogus the fundraising chair for the professionals then spoke. He just returned from Nicaragua were he was involved in a site assessment trip. He visited elder care facilities were he found most need water systems. The professionals are proposing that the student chapter takes on a water delivery system for another facility. He outlined project specifics: electrical system work, water cleanliness and supply, environmental concerns issues. He then talked about another project were a pump failed and now the facility has fruit trees that are dying. Possible that the irrigation system can be redone making it more efficient. Additionally there is a water runoff basin that needs to be redesigned and implemented.

Fundraising was Mr. Bogussą second topic. He spoke about some fundraising ideas including a human chess game played over the city of Portland. JFR foundation and The Center on Aging could have a system worked out that would allow us to work a concessions booth at a State Fair providing a serious fundraising opportunity.

Jeremiah Hess spoke about previous professional EWB meeting. Green Empowerment is another group working on similar projects which could be another resource for projects.

Colleen then concluding the meeting by calling for people to discuss projects and getting an application in for the Nicaragua project.
